The holidays are always so busy
Every holiday season, I tell myself I’m going to relax. That I’ll let my parents run around like crazy, and I would just ignore it. However, I never find myself being too successful with that. Instead, I insert myself right into the middle of the fray, trying to convince them to slow down and relax, but instead getting myself worked into the mess. Such is life.
Christmas itself was very nice, and I hope that everybody reading had a great Christmas too. We all got together for our traditional family celebration; it’s always nice to see everybody for a day on Christmas. Especially when I only get to see some of my family 3-4 times a year. Everybody seemed to enjoy their gifts and food, and we ended up the evening by watching some of the old (circa 1988) home videos I’ve been going through. I really need to finish some of these up so I can move on to newer ones.
Today we made a day trip up to Kansas City, primarily for me to meet up with my college friend John. He lives in San Francisco now, and the only time we see each other is when we’re both back in Kansas for Christmas. We have a tradition of Chinese food in KC and then milling around in the crazy mall for a while, and it was great to see him again. Filled out the day with some time at Crown Center and a quick trip to Costco (to show my parents the amazingness).
Tomorrow I really need to buckle down and get some work done. Work as in finishing up some home videos, but also as in real work … research. I have some pretty solid goals of research things that I want to get done on this trip, and I hope that I can succeed at least somewhat. We’ll see. Tomorrow should be mostly free for me to work. Then more parties, New Years, etc … not too many days left.
Kansas people, call me!
