Ouch! Hope that test went well, I’m sure it did. Sounds like your days are really busy!
You went how long without a website and you pick now to start one?!?
Silly, silly boy!
Hi Scott. Welcome to live journal
You’d also think that a girl who wants to get into med school would be super-motivated to finish her secondary apps, but somehow, that isn’t the case either…
And yes, 5 hours of sleep is plenty before a test. I’m not sure I’ve ever gotten that much before a science test.
oh no. i’ve created a livejournal updating monster!
Pam here. Journals are so fun. Its so weird that you’re talking about school. Ha ha ha. I’m SO glad to be out. Good luck! Keep leaving comments in my journal! It makes me smile!
Awww, I read it. Good luck getting up and getting your fluids done.
More Bush: “The great threat to our country is that these haters end up with weapons of mass destruction.”
Not Bush: “after all without you there would be no playas or player haters”
Thank God someone in the middle states agrees with us yankees. You better make sure all those breadbasket states agree with you too, or we’ll have this ass in office for another 4 years. Oy. The bushes should stop reproducing to ensure we dont have another prick like them in office again.
Welcome to LJ, Scott.
It was CrAzY!! I ended up really close to the goalposts out on the field and almost got trampled on by everyone! Managed to lose my favorite pair of flip-flop’s in the craziness…so yeah, I had to walk all the way back to Lewis from the Stadium barefooted. So happy we beat K-State!!!!
Thank you, Scott. That was entertaining.
)
And that my friends, is where I’m at in my life. Soon I should be taking my little “relaxation” trip far, far away….and perhaps when I return I will have more clarity on my life. And maybe I can fix all those parts that are out of harmony :`)
Have a nice day!
i’m sorry :`( any chance there was a really high average?
Don’t get discouraged, Scott. Like you said, your classmates in grad school will inevitably set the bar higher than undergrads at KU. I’m sure you’re doing fine. I’m glad to hear you found an advisor, too.
Awww, you helped me put that song in a PowerPoint presentation :`)
hey, i remember that!
Yes, how the heck is it Sunday? I sure didn’t accomplish much of my list this weekend…
I tried to post a comment earlier, but evidently it didn’t work so I’ll try again.
I stayed up late watching the game too! It was so exciting, and I’m cheering for more good baseball games this week! GO RED SOX!!!
Good luck studying! Hopefully you won’t be too distracted by Game 6…
Haven’t been watching much of the games…no time :-/ That’s all my parents talk about though..
Have fun with Cara!
Good luck, Scott, I’ll be praying that your test goes well for you and that you remain calm and do your best. The Red Sox are making me nervous too right now…they need to learn how to hold on to a lead… :-/
They’ll make sure those nasty immigrants never beat you on a test again. Doesn’t it make you feel that all is right in the world? Fluids test over, Yankees out of the playoffs…what more could a boy want? Well, besides that…?
I just love how professors can’t figure out the problems that they wrote…reminds me of some of my math classes.
Welch, Kim, Mike, and I all went to see that movie in Liberty Hall when it came out…sometime in April, I do believe. It was interesting.
The baseball was good this weekend, but can you believe all of the errors?
Well there’s your problem, silly. Most people go to bed DAILY!
Thanks. . .told you I was sleepy
Good luck on your test – I’ll be praying that it goes well!
I’ve also come to that conclusion about grad school — grades are unimportant as long as you try your best.
)
didn’t i tell you not to wear that 80s thing again?
wow
Texas, exciting…of course I’ve been spending all my time in Dallas, not Austin, but still, fun times.
great. i heard that Curt Schilling is going around with Bush.
Hope so
I’ll let you know!
Ahhhhh, what’s up with the picture
Bad Schilling
You stopped by the ‘renal office’, huh? Didn’t realize that parking had anything to do with kidneys.
Fine, fine. . .I’ll fix it! Aren’t you supposed to be sick or something?
The fact that he appears on Fox ‘News’ all the time doesn’t help Rudy either.
I’m sorry to hear about your advior problems. I hope you can get something good worked out!
Is this Theresa that you keep on talking about a senior ChemE from KU? If so, I think I may know her…
Glad you’re having fun, and congratulations on your awards…so just how does one win a ’safety award’ anyway?
Yeah, Theresa is a senior ChemE from KU. Her and I have been good friends for the past few years. How do you know her?
Thanks! It was quite a fun wekend. As for the safety award, a separate group of judges look over our design problem submissions, focusing on the 1) inherent safety and 2) engineered safety aspects of our design. So it was just chance that I got both a design and safety award.
Hmm…weird. Yeah, I agree that it’s probably a bunch of BS, and people can come up with ‘evidence’ for anything if they really try, but it’s weird to think about. It’s hard to know what to believe these days…about anything.
That’s what you get for moving up to that latitude
But sales tax doesnt apply to “normal” groceries…
Well, I haven’t read the exact proposal for the federal sales tax, but sales tax does apply to normal groceries in a lot of the country. . .at least in Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, and I’m sure many others. Maybe the federal proposal is not set up like that, I don’t know. But the groceries was just an example. I’m still convinced that this type of tax would make a large downward shift in the national tax burden.
Good Luck!
gl, thee
awesome.
Where do you find these websites?
Actually, I remembered having seen the site a long time ago. But I just searched for it on Google today and found it again.
Hope school is going well for you
Good luck on your test!
Good Luck – I’ll be praying for you!
Seriously, it seems like you have a test in fluids every other day! Well, good luck on that! You’ll have to tell me all the horror stories about how hard graduate school is when I see ya Thursday!
BTW…..any suggestions as to which webpage server (or whatever they are) I should use for my pictures?
Foil Shizzle :’)
Hehe. . .Foil Shizzle, dahg.
Glad I’m not in your section, or you wouldn’t have faith in me.
)
that’s a fun mood :’)
Oh Bejeweled…I remember being addicted to that game once.
Y’all’s gon’ rot ‘n hell fer listenina them academic types. Whadr you gon’ tell the lawd when he aks you why you done gone an’ killed tha baby da save a buncha sinnin’ cripples? Don’ thwawt his will!
I wouldn’t mind some more information about that whole stem-cell thing. One of my professors discussed that at the beginning of the semester. He was talking about how there’s very few existing adult stem-cell lines existing, and most of them aren’t useful for research…that sort of thing.
I don’t know, but that sounds like a Looooosiana accent to me. I’m not too sure about trusting those Loooosiana types, they’re pretty shady.
I is who is.
Yeah, basically that’s the thing. There aren’t very many lines. And the lines don’t form a representative sample of the US population. They were taken from invitro firtilization clinics, and as you can imagine it is the more affluent groups who use that. So the lines need to be more diverse. And more of them. I think there would only need to be around 200 to have a representative sample.
Wow, you have class through Wednesday? When are your finals, and when do you finally get to go home?
hehehe, i’m still awake too :’)
That’s not TOO surprising…
yeah I was pretty sleepy when we were talking after dinner tonight. but then we went out for coffee and i’ve been a little more perked up since then.
drinking is fun.
yeah, that keeps you up too.
Yeah, class on Wednesday. Finals are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Yes, my last final is Dec 22nd. Sucks, huh? So I’m nog going home until the 23rd.
Aww, thanks for staying up to read my posts, guys
Yes, yes that is true.
And how to you have time to stay up drinking? Oh yeah, this is stop day weekend, right?
Soon, soon I will be done with homework. . .
for once, I’m glad I didn’t make “the list.”
Hey, I know some of those guys! And I don’t like them much, either. I’m pretty sure that if I met the rest of them, I’d dislike them, as well.
brrrrrr…it’s cold in here! there must be some Toros in the atmosphere :’)
Only 1 game of Bejeweled? Yeah…
yup.
Freakin’ YEAH!
If it’s any consolation, you probably know more Linear than I do.
)
Congrats!
well look at mister smarty pants :’) good to know your mom has mad chopstick skillz
John Daniels cut his hair!!! What happened to the surfer boy :’) Haha, wonder if he cleaned up before coming back to Kansas.
Kelly’s a cutie with the long hair though :’) I like it!
You need to take a nap?!? Kelly, Emily, and I were at the Fieldhouse from 8 AM to 4:15 PM…it was so HOT and we were dehydrated…all we had to sustain us was a donut from Bill Self…but WE WON!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep Yep…I liked that movie! I went to see it at AMC 30 open captioned with some friends the other day. I got a kick out of that baby signing.
Scott, all that talk about food is making me hungry! Happy New Year!
Yeah, that was pretty funny. I really enjoyed all of the sex therapy stuff
Hey Scott,
Thanks for the comments over at my journal. I’ve been tweaking the template some, and just not had time to write much down, but once I get iced in tonight, I’ll probably add something.
You’re sounding like me. I’ve had to work 2 days each of the past 2 weeks thanks to holidays, but still I don’t think I’ve felt this busy since the week before the Design project was due. Few errands today, then maybe some vegging … then work tomorrow.
BTW, that was me, Ian … I forgot to sign it too
I didn’t realize it was possible for them to live that long.
HAHA! I’m reading your post in the library, and it’s all I can do not to laugh out loud…
Wow. I’m impressed Iowa State made that far, even in a dream.
)
Well see, we’re playing them tonight, so that was on my mind. . .
See, John, we beat Iowa State, just like in my dream! But I don’t think it was that close in the dream. . .
By the way, for some reason, I find your user picture really fitting
It’s from that Bubblegum Crisis show I keep talking about.
)
that nailgun article is crazy! they’re even reporting it on the news here.
Your responsible jeans or your responsible genes?
I don’t know what you’re talking about. . .something in my post?
hehe. i bet it was the jeans. he tried to put them on and they just refused to go out so late
Yeah, maybe that was it. My friend Dan laughed when I told him I got dressed and was putting on my shoes, then decided not to go out.
Yeah…there’s something wrong when an undefeated team loses 83-62…
What’s the Matter with Kansas was fantastic! Did you read One Market Under God before? That’s sitting on my shelf waiting to be opened at the moment.
I’m a guitar. word.
is it bad if a computer shocks me when i touch it?
It looked like the Winter Carnival melted.
(
I like 2018 and 2022!
Texas?
Yes, Texas. Common exclamation in the frozen tundra, particularly in the confines of Amundson Hall. Extremely Versatile.
Usages: After a touchdown in a football game. After asking a question about Statistical Mechanics. After claiming that it is lunch time. Etc.
good to know. i wouldn’t personally have any idea what that frozen tundra is about cuz in my part of texas it’s quite nicely in the 60s
your seminars sound fun :’)
From the Houston Chronicle, by George F. Will
“The Republican Study Committee, chaired by Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, is an organization of 100 particularly adamant conservatives among House Republicans. Pence, for example, was one of just 12 Republicans who voted against both the prescription drug entitlement, and against No Child Left Behind because of its imposition of federal standards on elementary education, a quintessentially state and local responsibility.
When, a couple of weeks ago, the RSC met in Baltimore to enumerate its priorities, its list included “maintaining local control of secondary education.” That may seem an anodyne sentiment; actually it is a shot across the Bush administration’s bow. It is code for: Enough centralization — we oppose the president’s plan for extending federal standards to high schools. Thirty-four House Republicans voted against NCLB in 2001. More might oppose the administration’s planned extension of its sweep.”
Will is a Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist, based in Washington, D.C.
You went grocery shopping for the first time in a month?!? How did you swing that one?
Don’t eat too much when you live alone and freeze a lot of stuff when you buy it
Also helps that I’m never home
OK, yeah, I guess I don’t freeze much…I tend to buy stuff like meat as I need it, b/c otherwise I don’t remember to defrost it in time. But what about fruit and other things like that? You can’t freeze that…
Yay Olver. It’s okay. I got a B on my first exam last semester and still ended up with an A. He said he takes improvement on the exams into account.
What’s up?
Ahhh, just mourning KU’s loss. . .and now their crappy ranking.
Oh, I thought maybe your fish (Pete?) died.
Yep, I’m in mourning too….
yay carbon leaf! i actually heard them in a store the other day, too.
it was probably life less ordinary or what about everything that you heard. do they get any radio airtime there? the planet in kc plays them occasionally.
Haven’t heard them on the radio yet, but I don’t listen that much. Only in the car.
Yeah, go Illini! LOSE ROY LOSE!
Go Illini!
Yeah, it doesn’t sound like she’s very pleasant, but I can’t say much for the hecklers, either. Way to be immature idiots…
Good call. Because you make your best point by being immature and interrupting people, right? Kind of like insulting large groups of people.
Go Illini!
Agreed on feeling sad about the Pope. Dad was telling me about different Popes from his lifetime on our drive down to Dallas today. I didn’t realize how much of the opinions of Protestants he swayed in addition to Catholics, etc. He was a great moral leader.
Sad about Terri Schiavo as well. Don’t know if the courts were right or wrong either…but it sounds like Judge Greer was consistent in his rulings. (That could have been much worse if he had been fickle.) I don’t think the original ruling was correct for several reasons…but that would take a much longer response. Basically, I don’t think her husband’s motives were judged very well.
I agree with you with the Pope and Terri Schiavo. I do not have an opinion one way or the other with Terri, we aren’t even getting half of facts. I do know that if it were me, I wouldn’t have wanted to be in that state for that long of a time.
I think it’s sad that the courts had to get involved at all with Terri. The media skews things for sure, but after following the case for quite awhile preceeding all the recent coverage, I definitely believe that her husband’s motives weren’t right and that he should’ve divorced her a long time ago and stepped back from all this, as he’s definitely moved on with his life.
As far as the pope, his death is very bittersweet. It’s sad that he’s not with us anymore, but at the same time, how can we really be ’sad’ when we know without a doubt that he is with God now? The church is in 9 days of mourning right now, but to me, it’s almost more of a celebration of his life than a mourning of his death. He was a very good leader who I really believe understood how to lead by example of faith. I think the reason he was so influential outside the Catholic world is that he knew how to spread Christ’s love without ever trying directly to convert people, and he was such a good advocate for human rights and peace…issues which definitely transcend religion. He also lead a very interesting life even before being Pope – I’d definitely recommend reading about him if you get the chance.
You’re probably right about the Schivo thing. I just haven’t had the time to learn about the case, not the interest, actuaully. And I don’t generally trust the media’s representation of things. But yes, consistency is key in something like this.
Yeah, there’s no way I would have wanted to be around that long. I guess we should all get it in writing, huh?
I totally agree with you about the Pope comments. It does seem to be a celebration of his life, as it should be. The pope was a good man, and he’s in a good place now. The church needs to move on, as I’m sure it will.
I also agree with you about his influence outside the Catholic world. As I’m sure you’ve figured out, I’m not hte fondest of Catholics
However, I’ve alwasy had the greatest respect for this pope as an advocate for peace and rights around the world. He was a deeply religious figure without preaching to the world. I’ll always listen to what somebody has to say, as long as (1) they don’t make it seem like they are better than me because of what they believe and (2) they don’t try to convert me to their way of thinking all of the time. The pope was wonderful at that.
As for his life outside the papacy, I’ve always been amused to hear what he had done. He was into theatre for a while, rigth? And I know that even while pope, he was an avid sportsman.
Yes, he was a playwright, actor, outdoorsy person, etc. Also has been through a lot – I think his whole immediate family was dead by the time he was 20-ish. And he did a lot for Poland around WWII/Nazi times… I’ve been meaning for a while to read more about him, myself.
Is it really fair to say that you’re ‘not the fondest of Catholics’, though? That just sounds really discriminatory. Disagree with Catholicism – fine. But don’t take it out on the people who follow it. I know you didn’t intend to have that sound mean, but it sort of did.
Yeah, definitely wasn’t trying to sound mean or be offensive or anything. I do have some qualms with some Catholic beliefs, but I was in no way trying to generalize the doctrine to all people. My apologies.
New picture?
I don’t know how you can stay up for that long without going insane!
I can’t go more than 30 hours.
Yeah, I’m happy for Roy…he deserved to win a championship game. I wish he would’ve lost this year and won next year, it just doesn’t seem right him winning when we did borrible in the tournment with his recruiting class.
I’m sad that Roy won, but I’m not that mad at him anymore. It really looks like he just left b/c he knew that there was better talent at UNC than at KU and that he had the better shot to win it all there. I really wanted the Illini to win; I liked their team better, and I just really felt for them. But, hey, they blew it in the last 2:30. Gosh, they had about 5 chances to tie it up when they were down 72-70, yet they couldn’t do it!!!
I’d be interested to read some of the Pope’s books.
Well, I’m sticking with my man Roy. And I’m happy he won. I feel sorry for the Illini b/c it’s always sad to lose your last game as a senior. And just sad to lose in general. I’ve heard recently that a lot of the reason Roy went to UNC was family. Don’t know if it’s true or not, but maybe a factor.
I did start to wonder last night if maybe he was meant to be at UNC. Sucks for KU, but maybe that’s really where he should be. And since he didn’t take the job the first time he was given another chance. Of course, I can’t even figure out where I’m supposed to be :’)
Yeah, they defnintely had the chance to win. They had been making those sick 3’s all night, and had those 4-5 wide open looks at the end and couldn’t convert. UNC just played better. Illinois had absolutely no inside game. . .offense or defense.
Woohoo! Props to me :’)
I don’t get that McDonalds commercial either.
Rather than blog about political feelings, I think you should continue to blog about the deeper meanings of mcdonalds commercials. yeah, i’d read that.
Haha, okay Kim, I wasn’t trying to get “deep” with the Mickey-Dees commercial. But I just don’t get it. She likes him…that’s obvious, right? And he’s a typical dense guy and doesn’t get it, right? But was “get another McGriddle” the answer she was looking for? Or did she want him to respond “Well, I’d just have to ask you out tonight” or something like that?!? Girls! So confusing!!!
I dunno either. Guess I’ve never really pondered it.
I don’t think it was the answer she was looking for…I think she would have stopped if it had been instead of going on about the coffee. However, I don’t know how she would get a date out of comparing girls to McGriddles.
And, um, boys are sooo confusing
Good call on the comparison. Mmmmm, girls a greasy, fatty, and otherwise bad for your health, right?!? So if the McGriddle comparison didn’t work, why did she move on and do the exact same thing for coffee?
she’s not the brightest girl?
But she’s cute
wow. good answer.
Wasn’t that the point of the commercial anyway? For guys to associate a cute girl with food?
My interpretation: The girl is telling the guy he’s supposed to get the girl while she’s still available (i.e. the McGriddle disappears pretty fast if you’re not careful). Instead of getting that, though, he just wants to go get another girl (i.e. another McGriddle). So she tries again with the coffee…an analogy which will probably suck more than the McGriddle one!
I like your assessment!
Well if it takes an English major to figure out a McDonalds commercial, I’m not sure they’re gonna get their intended audience
Good point
But from another aspect, there’s the other target. . .young men who thinks she’s cute. And really, do they care what anyone says or does? No, she’s hot and she’s holding a McGriddle. They should go to Mickey-Dees and try to find her.
i bet you’ve been going there all week
Uhhh, not quite
who knew the McGriddle commercial was such a hot topic
Feel better!
that’s awesome
I particularly like the motions
So I didn’t actually read this whole article (I’ve got stuff to do now), but this is something that irritates me. If a pharmacist doesn’t believe in birth control that’s fine. But he shouldn’t try to impose his beliefs on others. He should at least be required to make somebody else fill the prescription.
I don’t want to debate this really, but I just want to clarify something that I think gets misunderstood. The thing about the birth control prescription issue though is not about ‘imposing beliefs’ – it’s about acting according to one’s morals. See if this makes sense: The pill causes spontaneous abortions as a back-up when the contraceptive part of it doesn’t work. So, if I were a pro-life pharmacist, I would not want to provide it to a patient – not because I want to ‘impose my beliefs’, but rather because I believe that I would be held accountable (by God, by my conscience, etc) for aiding in what I believe to be a morally illicit act that does, in fact, harm another person (the aborted fertilized egg). When someone else fills the prescription instead of me, I still obviously think that the pill is wrong, but at least I’m not being forced to take part in it.
Conversely, I may also be opposed to non-abortifacient barrier forms of birth control, but I don’t think I’d have a huge problem with giving that to someone. In that case, I wouldn’t want to impose my morals, because that woman’s moral choice is not potentially destroying another life.
For the record, though I don’t like the idea of gay marriage, I’m not necessarily in favor of legislating it, for the same reason. I think it’s wrong (according to my personal beliefs), but I also think that since it’s not directly harming someone else, it’s not my place to make their decisions for them. It’s also important here to note the distinction between judging the sin and judging the sinner – while I think that the ACT is wrong, I’m not trying to judge the ACTOR.
OK, I wrote this in a very unorganized way, but I hope this distinction makes sense. I fully believe in the idea of moral autonomy, under the condition that others are not harmed by someone’s decision. In return, I would hope that others would respect my moral beliefs and not expect me to personally contribute to what I believe to be an immoral choice.
Thanks for the comment. And I probably shouldn’t ahve brought up the whole abortion issue anyway, because (1) that wasn’t what I was trying to get at and (2) I’m not myself completely sure of what I believe when it comes to this. I have thoughts, but not firm ones yet. I think that what I truly believe about abortion is completely unrealistic to legislate, which is funny, because I see myself as being a realist when it comes to forming the beliefs.
- There should be no late-term abortions, period. How you define this (3rd trimester, whatever), I don’t know. But definitely none of this “hurry and kill it before it comes out” stuff. Gross.
- I think women should have the right to have an abortion if they got pregnent via rape or something like that. Period.
- If a woman is pregnant and doesn’t want to have the baby, she should be required to try to find somebody who would be happy to take care of it. Family, friends, whatever.
- If the woman can not and will not be able to take care of the kid and love it and raise it, she should be able to have ONE abortion. It was an accident that she got pregnant. She can learn from it. I guess I’ve had really, really bad experiences with a lot of foster care and adoption situations in my home town and surrounding area and don’t have much faith in those systems. Plus, a lot more kids in them then loving parents. I guess I think that the kid is better off not being born than being ignored and abused in this world. This is what I’m not too firm on yet.
- If a woman wants a second abortion, TOO BAD! If you didn’t learn from it the first time, then you better grow up and learn to deal with it.
So yeah, impossible, but close to what I believe.
I completely respect your views on the abortion pill thing. As long as the person wanting it is able to easily get it, it’s fine if you keep with your beliefs by not filling it yourself.
Gay marraige, or gay sex, specifically. I would feel wrong if I did it myself, but if that’s what does it for sombody else, who am I to tell them they can’t?
Yeah, I mean, I wasn’t trying to bring up abortion again, but that’s related, so I felt I had to use it in the explanation.
I understand (but obviously don’t completely agree with all) the beliefs you described, but where you’ve indicated uncertainty, for me what it comes down to is that I don’t think we have the right to decide when to allow or deny life. Same reason I’m against the death penalty. (yay for bringing in another controversial issue – haha)
Also, if abortion is wrong enough not to allow a second one, is it ok enough to allow a first one? I get what you’re saying, but it seems a little inconsistent to me. People do make and learn from mistakes, but often, post-abortive women end up feeling even worse about their mistakes. I think what we need to focus on is educating people so that they can learn BEFORE making that mistake, rather than learn FROM that mistake. And we need to support pregnant women better, because so many abortions are done not b/c the woman WANTS to, but because she feels she has no choice financially, etc. That’s really sad to me that those sorts of ‘fixable’ issues that we can definitely help as a society result in something so grave as loss of life.
I agree that there are problems with foster/adoptive care, but I think a better solution is to crack down on reforming and supporting that system rather than become more accepting of abortion. I know there are a lot of orphans out there waiting to be adopted, but at the same time, there are SO many people who want to adopt newborns, so I don’t think that’d be a huge issue. Finding good homes for all the older kids seems to be a somewhat different issue.
The rape issue is obviously a really difficult one, and I can’t imagine being in that situation, but again, is it fair to punish the child for something the father did? It seems counterintuitive to me to react to a violent act with another violent act. Unfortunately that often requires quite a sacrifice from the mother (even if she doesn’t keep the child), but again, I think it’s often an issue of feeling like she has no choice but to abort it b/c of societal taboo, etc. It’s also interesting that there are a lot of stories out there about how aborting a rape baby actually has had even more horrible emotional effects on the mother, and on the other hand, how those who choose to carry the baby to term end up really feeling a lot of joy from it. Again, tough situation, and horrible that we even need to consider it…
wow, so i could write lots on this if i had time
but as is i’ve got work and gardening and stuff to do, it may be awhile. i’ll reply a little to these comments, but i’m not checking out the article, so don’t be upset if i get something completely wrong.
abortion: i’m opposed to it. i agree with Kim about the pharmacist stuff. i think the main problem in legislation and stuff is that not everyone agrees that it’s murder…and if it’s not murder than maybe you’re not hurting anyone (except all the crap it does to the mother…). i don’t think most people understand that many forms of birth control do more than stop fertilization. i can think of some people that would probably be really upset if they thought that they had actually relied on the abortafacient part. so obviously i think more people need educated and such, rather than just handing out birth control to teenagers and young 20s left and right. sure it helps with cramps and regulating the monthly stuff and preventing unwanted pregnancies. i’ve been told about it and offered it but no doctor has mentioned “oh yeah, you could actually kill a fertilized egg using this stuff”.
pro-choice? sure. make it a woman’s choice to have sex or use a condom. raise young girls to know they are valuable without satisfying some guys sexual urges. stop 1 in 3 girls (i heard that statistic somewhere…) from being molested or otherwise sexually abused. raise a girl with accurate beliefs about sex and reproduction. raise a girl to make her own choices. but once you’re pregnant, you’ve made your choice. and you have to deal with that.
gay marriage: honestly i’d prefer it be called something else. what’s in a name? is it discriminatory? i can’t answer how i’d feel on the other side. i think the political part is more about benefits and tax breaks than a real “moral issue”. as i understand it, marriage is defined as the union of a man and a woman. i’m happy to keep that definition but give “alternative” couples a chance to enjoy the legal benefits of being married. it’s not my business to say who they can and can’t be with. why do they have to have something official to get the benefits? because all the straight couples living and sleeping together who don’t want to commit to marriage would want all the benefits of marriage as well. make sense? but, hey, as long as we’re legislating morality i think Christianity has quite a bit to say about divorce that we don’t currently enforce in any sort of legal manner. as well as any number of other topics…
well, that’s my randomness
oh yeah, the death penalty. so why is it that i can’t really vote against abortion and against the death penalty? i can just vote for who i think we should kill? but if i try to kill myself and fail i’ll get locked up for attempted murder?
I agree about the fact that a lot of people don’t know the truth about what’s in the pill and would be upset by it. Again, education is key. And I agree about the terminology of marriage – I don’t believe it’s even possible to have gay ‘marriage’, because to me, that’s not marriage. But if they want to allow people (gay or straight unmarried couples) to have legal benefits, fine, whatever. To me a civil ‘marriage’ isn’t a full ‘marriage’ anyway, ya know? I think that’s kinda what you were getting at. Oh yeah, and I agree with the frustration about inconsistent life ethics in politics….really, how can you be prolife and pro death penalty, etc? makes no sense to me. I guess for me abortion is the issue that trumps death penalty, but only b/c it affects more people…definitely NOT because I think the death penalty is ok.
OK, gotta go back to class…
I recognize your argument about post-abortive women feeling worse and regretting their choice. It would be nice if our world were organized and good enough that people who felt they couldn’t support a child could be properly taken care of. Like if we had the proper infrastructure and support for foster/adobtive care. It would also be nice if people didn’t have sex and get pregnant if they weren’t ready to accept that responsiblity. But unforutnately, I don’t think that’s something that we’re going to be able to fix anytime soon. At least not in this country, with the political situation the way that it is. I think that there may be a much better chance in other countries that realize that not everything has to be legislated.
I’m hovering on the edge of getting onto my soap box about drinking. But I’m not going to delve all the way in. But here’s the deal. Irresponsible drinking is much less of a problem in many other countries than in the US. And these countries all have more lax alcohol laws. But the US woud be more apt to tighten up the laws then to try to fix the root of the problem. Our societal mindset is what I see as the problem here. We have a law that keeps kids who are naturally in their rebellious stage from doing something that their slightly older friends do and enjoy. So they (1) sneak and do it before it’s their time and/or (2) go crazy once they tunr 21, only causing the people not 21 to want it more. What would happen if there weren’t this stigma about drinking and people could just use alcohol responsibly? You know, have a glass of wine with dinner, even if they’re [gasp] 18?
Back to the rape issue. I’m probably not going to go into this more, becasue I think we probably just have a difference in the core beliefs of what abortion is. But you’re right, it is horrible that we do have to consider this issue.
I completely agree with your pro-choice statement. That would be the ideal situation. The problem is, how do we do this?
Okay, so when I just said completely, I must have read too fast. While I’m sure 70% (I made that up) of the females who have premarital sex (notice I only said premarital) do so to “satisfy some guys sexual urges,” there are plenty of women who want to have sex and enjoy sex on their own where it’s not a submissive activity. Maybe this isn’t something that you’ve personally dealt with, but I’m sure it is a factor. And then there’s the married women who just aren’t ready to have a baby (or another baby), but want to enjoy sex.
But I still agree with your abortion stance. . .I guess I was drifting back to birth control. . .so confusing!!!
I also agree with you on gay marriage. Yeah, so it’s really not marriage, is it. I just think that if we as a society have decided to give a monetary benefity to men and women who are “joined” or married, we shouldn’t keep two men or two women fromg getting the same benefits. That’s all I care about. But do realize that not all politicians share this view. Many think that there should not be any benefits at all, and this, to me, is imposing your morals on somebody else, which I don’t see as right.
How you can be pro-life and pro-death penalty:
(1) you don’t believe that abortion is “killing” anybody (wait, that’s the wrong argument. But if you believe this, I guess you could be pro-choice but anti-death penalty)
(2) abortion kills an innocent life, but the death penalty kills somebody who has done something wrong. Of course, how are we go judge them, but that’s another issue all together. . .
You must realize that not all people approach legislations and laws from a moral standpoint as we’ve been discussing. Some people just see that it’s expensive to keep a murderer in jail for the rest of his life, and we’re out of room anyway. So just kill him. . .he’s not getting out anyway. . .
this is somewhat off-topic, but I feel the need to make a clarification/addition. Married people who are not using artificial birth control still can, and do, have sex to enjoy it. Just b/c you’re not using artificial methods doesn’t mean you’re only doing it when you want to have a baby. Natural family planning is just as effective as other methods when learned properly… And, by the way, also helps you to easily get pregnant when you do want to. OK, I’m done.
I think I’ve had enough discussion of hot topics for now….
Yes, I understand that this is what they’re thinking. I’m just saying it seems inconsistent to me when you really think about it.
i didn’t mean that girls don’t want to have sex. i just think that if they’re sort of giving into the guy they’ll also give into his resistance to use a condom (and yes, many guys are more responsible…but i think they tend to be having sex with the girls who will say “yes, i want it, but i want a condom too”)
so, basically, i think a lot of the people who need/want abortions are more likely to be sleeping with the less responsible guys. make sense? and from my understanding, naive as it may be, there are guys out there who could care less about the girl getting pregnant, and they think they’re more manly or get more pleasure out of not using a condom.
I’m not saying this is what I believe. I’m just being devil’s advocate.
Too bad I completely missed this discussion – I might have had a lot to say.
I would comment, except that I have limited time on the Internet at the library. But I’m sure you all could guess what I would say…
Great column.
I wish we did not mourn Roy as we do, b/c he was so much more about the man (himself) than about the team and the program (as Self is)…although we didn’t see those flaws exposed until he left.
My favorite column written in the days after Roy left was by Jason Whitlock from the KC Star. (Yes, I normally hate Whitlock’s columns, but not this one!) He said that we had glorified Roy, put him on a pedastal, believed his statements about “the Kansas basketball family,” and known that he was the classiest coach in the game. When he left, and how he left, though, just proved to us all that Roy wasn’t this super-human person, better than the rest of the coaching fraternity – he was “just another basketball coach.”
I do not think we can fairly judge Self’s coaching and handling of the KU b-ball program until it is completely filled with his recruits and his players. Until then, he just trying to operate in Roy’s footsteps, shaping remnants of a team and program that were deserted.
I completely agree with your last comment. I wish people didn’t judge Self until Roy’s players were all gone. It’s only fair.
show them what a real Kansas BBQ is up there.
Hmm..snow…in May? Betcha missing Kansas about now?
Then again, it’s been in the 40’s and rainy here. Well, hope the rest of your semester goes well!
Mom said it’s been snowing in Denver, too. That’s not unusual for April, though… but the end of April? That’s pushing it.
My point exactly! I don’t mind it snowing that much in April in Minnesota, but May should just be unacceptable!
I got hooked to a few TV shows this semester. Too bad my parents stopped our cable service last Friday.
man, I am sick of hearing about this…
I was wondering when I’d start seeing stuff about us outside of Kansas.
Got almost the exact same scores as you did….think we’re related?
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!! Am happy you will be able to make it!
Looking forward to seeing you, too. What’s your pager number/email. . .I’ll be roaming around the hill looking for friends, I’ll stop by and say hi.
You can text me at 913-375-8082 or e-mail me at KJayhawks2005@tmail.com
chicken marsala in pittsburg? that’s almost like the Olive Garden in frontenac
Hehe. Turns out they might be building an Olive Garden in Pittsburg in the next few years, though. There are a bunch of Italians in the areas. . .the mafia is supposed to be in Frontenac, remember?
nah, dude… it’s raining, which means I can’t wake up.
but, I love the rain nonetheless.
Yes! I converted you.
Yeah, not only is it Carbon Leaf, but I legally bought it!
let me know what you think of Indian Summer. It’s good, but a lot different…it’s grown on me a lot, but Echo is still my favorite by far.
welchy decided to delete her account quite a while ago, but she still reads LJ. Last I knew, she was considering rejoining…
she should! b/c she can’t read friends only entries w/o being a friend…
Congrats to your dad!
)
Oooo…that will make for an interesting day today!
Scott, I think I speak for almost all of us when I say…What the hell are you talking about? You’re a nerd.
Hey, it’s my journal, and I can be dorky if I want to
I was just venting, anyway…
Isn’t it nice to know that someone cares enough to be bitter? I hope there was at least a little fluff to surround the engagement part. Oh, the possible responses that such an email begs for…but I’m sure you took the high road and left it at “Congratulations!”.
Can’t say that I really thought of it that way. There was a little fluff, but surprisingly little. The subject line was “Update
”. She did ask how I was at the end.
But yes, you know me too well. I did the whole “Congratulations” and “Do you have a date set yet.” I just can’t make myself be that big of an asshole (others might disagree with that comment).
I was just thinking it would be amusing to go passive-aggressive in that situation, for example by bemoaning how you can’t decide among the three amazingly gorgeous and talented young women you’re dating and how you really wish you could settle on just one like she has because keeping up with the tri-gf’s insatiable hunger for Scott time is killing you and you hate it when they start catfighting about who gets you on what days. (Yes, I have tried something similar before, except I made my story more plausible.)
For some reason, I can’t see that as being that believable. . .
Owieeeee
I think I saw someone in a post office once who had to mess around with ‘fixing’ an alcohol box, too. Pretty strange.
Dude, when was that quote? Do you think he’s even seen the autopsy yet?!
They were comments to the Family Research Council. Date unknown (to me).
$Texas.
Okay..you’re making me feel really lazy. I haven’t worked out in forever…and Hawaii is coming up! ack!
Hope your knee isn’t hurting too much.
I wish they had them around here…
)
I was thinking of you during the post. . .
glad you made it back.
C’mon POSTTTTTT already!!!!!
Hey, I was at a movie tonight and just got back. Post tomorrow…
Sorry, but my brain is on a 2 and 1/2 week vacation from tackling difficult issues…
I’ve seen a coral reef IMAX…I wonder if it was the same one? Probably. Sounds like a fun trip!
Yay for your post!!!
Scott,
The mystery leakage was probably the “The Works”. Most toilet bowl cleaners have Sodium Hydroxide in them, and as a few of the guys at the brewery would say, “Aluminum no likey.” Casutic soda likes to eat Aluminum in a wildly exothermic reaction that generally creates a bunch of smoke. If it managed to diffuse into the soda as well, the carbonic acid and caustic reaction would generate a good amount of CO2. I’d have loved to see the goo that was probably remaining. On a side note, a Mash (milled grain and hot water) plus caustic soda forms a nice German Chocolate Cake-like gelatin … don’t ask me how I know that … :-p
- Ian
Thanks, Ian. Of all of the people here at school that I’ve asked, none of them specifically thought of caustic. I’ll have to check the ingredients of “The Works” when I get home. We guessed that it was that, since Windex should be pretty harmless. I think I’ll still do my experiment, though
I would too! Experiments, especially involving smoke or things exploding are of course worthwhile.
That is so true. ~Amanda~
Along those lines, Dave Barry in his column on week waxed eloquent on how good alcohol is:
“When I heated my home with oil, I found that I used an average of 800 gallons per year. I have found that I can keep comfortably warm for an entire winter with slightly over half that quantity of beer.”
Is that a Frank Sinatra quote?
True, very true
Not really sure. I know it was somebody famous who was dead, but I don’t remember exactly.
At least Larry didn’t cut your hair. ;o)
Cool pix….now go and post a pix of your new haircut
No he didn’t. However, I thought he got off at 4, so I went at 4:45, and he was still there. Luckily he left at 5 and was already on his last customer.
Well, I managed to pull out the scisors myself and trim some of the bad parts. Scary! But it’s not quite as bad now.
A fried snickers bar on a stick?
Ohhh, you have no idea how wonderful it is!!! Pure heaven
that is what I hear.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Deaths are so much harder when they’re that random and unexpected. They will definitely be in my prayers. It’s really ironic though – during lecture today, one of the professors was talking about how that happened to a friend of his – a DVT after surgery on a ruptured achilles tendon. Luckily they discovered it in time though, and he recovered.
I’m really sorry to hear that.
I saw the score of the game and I thought of you.
Yep, you’ve been leading a busy life! Sounds like you’re having fun. Let me know how STOMP was, I’ve been wanting to see them.
Since I just brought my bike up here, mostly due to the gas prices, I was curious and looked up all the Kansas rules. Basiacally, if you’re on a bike, you have to think of it like a very under-powered car. Bicyclists have to obey all of the normal car traffic rules. However, they are allowed to use the sidewalk in certain conditions – more than 100 feet from any public building, never on Mass St., and always yield to peds.
But, I have a feeling that it’s sort of like trying to teach Italians to drive – the rules are pretty much just a suggestion and nothing can change that.
“Sunday I got up early again and went to the 9PM church service.”
…yeah, I HATE having to wake up at 9 pm!
Okay, okay, I menat 9AM
ooo..you need to come up to NY and cook for me!!
My idea of cooking is…warming up frozen pasta, mac & cheese, spagetti o’s, or pancakes……
I miss Super Target and Super Wal-Mart. I’ve only been to a Wal-Mart once since May…….imagine that….
I think we could work out some sort of deal there. I crash at your place in NYC and cook for you! But frozen pasta and mac & cheese, that’s better than just breakfast cereal! That was 2/3 of your meals in Hawaii!!!
Wow, the USC game was awesome…and yes I was cheering for USC now that I am connected to that school via my brother.
Stupid Target is right. I guess they closed at 9 tonight…b/c I went after “Housewives” and couldn’t get in! Had to settle for Wal-Mart – blah.
KU’s offense SUCKS.
Wow I’m impressed…. at 6:20 am my time…I was pushing the snooze button….
It’s been in the 50’s and 60’s here…..
I am out in Colorado visiting Jeff and Julie. I needed a vacation from all of the stress back home. I hope all is going well with you. When are you coming to visit? My b-day is in 35 days. Yeah I will be legal.
This must be Amanda. Hope you’re having a good trip.
I’m watching the game too – top of the 11th now. And yes, I’m cheering for the Astros as well. This is making me nervous…they should have put it away in the 9th.
they should have put it away when burke worked his butt off to get to 3rd. and last inning.
I haven’t been to bed before 1am the last two nights. I need to go to bed, but I can’t sleep while this is going on!!!
Dangit! What a letdown. And now I’m super-exhausted for class, too…
Dangit, I’m sad that they lost…
Mario….for some reason that doesn’t surprise me…
oooo should be fun!! I miss Lawrence!
Come to Colorado…all the Fat Tire you could ever want!
Yeah, I’ve considered that
At least I now have a twice yearly appointment in Lawrence
Too bad I can’t get my parents to bring some up to me when they visit.
I’ve never tried it. What’s it like? It must be good. But obviously I’m not a beer lover. Though the beer I had on Halloween was actually decent…don’t know what it was, though. And the wine I drank before that might have helped – haha.
By the way, what is Lindsay up to? I haven’t talked to her in quite awhile.
My friend Chongai claims that drinking Fat Tire “is like eating a biscut”. It’s a pretty hardy taste and not very bitter at all.
She’s working for a small architectural firm in Lawrence. They do a lot of work for the City of Lawrence, I think. She just worked on designing these lofts just south of Borders, too. She seems to be really enjoying her job. She’s also going back to school to finish up an architecture degree in the evenings, starting next semester.
um, Dinkytown?
Yeah, retarded name. Basically it’s the student area right north of campus.
i like the shout out louds.
Yeah, me too. They were quite good, too! First time seeing them in concert.
sorry about your airport delays. i guess heading south was the better way to go :’)
ew…..that’s no fun!
Well that murder story sure beats my story. I just got back from running an errand, about 3 or 4 blocks away from my apt…I saw 2 police cars, 2 fire vans, and 4 fire trucks at a house…
yep..indeed…living in the city
Oh..and if u run into that guy…run away!
Great, a murderer in your neighborhood and a serial rapist in my neighborhood who tried to attack my friend’s 70-year-old next door neighbor! City life…
Looks like we’re all “enjoying” no longer living in small towns. Wait, both of you grew up in cities, what am I talking about?
I’ve never really lived IN a big city though – just in the ‘burbs.
yeah, guess there is a bit of a difference there.
DAMN Civ Pro – that was a grueling final! And, YES, we had to know Rule 8(a)!
Yay! I’m a little jealous…but yet not. I like classes. I think when I’m done with classes I’m going to be a little sad, actually…. or then again, maybe I’ll be sick of them. Who knows….I’ll let you know in March 2007.
I like classes too. But I know I’ll TA at least two more times, and I have plans on auditing a few classes, so I’m not going to let my brain decay or anything. But it will be nice not having the pressure to perform.
Yay!
I agree…I think I’m going to need a break from this Christmas break!
Have a great Christmas Eve…see you tomorrow!
Yeah, I don’t get the complaining about Christmas being on Sunday. I mean, I think it’s easier! Wouldn’t people normally go to church on a normal Sunday morning and on Christmas morning? So aren’t you killing 2 birds with one stone? I don’t get it. Apparently a lot of the ‘megachurches’ around here cancelled Christmas service. Even if you normally would go on Christmas eve instead of morning, do Protestants not have a Christmas eve service when Christmas falls on a Sunday? We still do. I don’t see why they wouldn’t….
If anyone can clear this up for me I’d really appreciate it.
I don’t think we normally have a Christmas morning service. My church had two Christmas eve services :’) Kendra and I worked with the 3 to 5 year olds during the “family service” and then went to the 11pm service with our parents. I think most Protestants still have a Christmas eve service, but maybe Presbyterians are special :’) We did have a Christmas morning service today too.
Having New Year’s day on a Sunday…that could be rough ;’)
Oh….so protestants don’t normally have christmas morning service, huh? I guess that makes sense then….well, not saying that’s a good enough excuse for these people to complain, but at least I understand the situation now.
Yep, Cara nailed it. Normally no Christmas morning service. Unless it’s Sunday.
This New Year’s Day service may be a problem. I think even we may skip it. Maybe…
Wow…if your family doesn’t go will there be anyone at your church?
Yeah, well mom just asked me to read, so we’ll be there…
I read about those h.s. girls in our paper. Wasn’t it just a few years back when some other girls died in car wreck right by Arma? Where did this wreck take place?
Yeah, when I was still in high school, some other girls from Frontenac died right outside of Arma when driving home from a baseball game. We all actually heard the ambulences and everything from the game. I didn’t know any of them, othen than knowing the names from school.
For this accident, I’m not sure where exactly it happened, but somewhere around the Arma / Frontenac area, I think. Sad that it happened, but also weird that both of them were from Arma.
ooh, a new picture
hehe, yes! I just realized you could put up 6!
It couldn’t have been that bad. ~Kampa~
You always seem to have flying troubles, don’t you?
What is it with you and airplane mechanical problems?
Yeah, WTF! Seriously, the last three times I’ve been in Arma, my flight back to Minneapolis was not only delayed, but canceled! Last Christmas, we had bad weather and it was cancelled. This Thanksgiving, Milwaukee has fog, and it was canceled. And now this time! At least I have a hotel now.
I even heard from somebody that the engine in Minneapolis caught fire. I don’t know if that was true or just a tall story, but still interesting…
You have seriously bad airplane luck.
In Good Company? That movie was not the cute little love story the previews promised!
So in that case, maybe I’d like that movie?
I always thought it looked too chick-flicky for me.
YES! Thank you. For some reason I can never remember the name of that movie. I like it though.
I don’t know what’s up with me and airplanes. I used to have perfect luck, but lately it has been just the opposite.
Not too chick-flicky at all. Kind of funny.
Yeah, it was the Vince show. They played awesome, as did USC. I was rooting for USC b/c of Mark, of course. Although TX did deserve it, I guess I was unhappy to see the “individuals” prevail over the “TEAM” of USC.
And by “team”, you mean Bush and Leinert? I don’t mind Bush, but I think Leinert has a poor attitude.
Plus Lendale White, Dwayne Jarrett, etc.
I like Leinart and his attitude; I thought his postgame interview and Pete Carroll’s were very respectful and gave credit where credit was due. Both teams and coaches were very classy.
White did have a very nice game. And I do like Pete Carroll.
i’m kinda sad that that was my first thought too.
so really, the TX defense managed to get in the way of the “Reggie Bush show” while the USC defense didn’t have a whole lot of luck stopping the “Vince Young show”
Agreed. Except for that awesome TD leap
Does it have shocks and pegs? Have you taken it on any sweet jumps?
haha
Hahah! No shocks. No pegs. No jumps. Hopefully, there will be no jumps on the road bike! You silly!
What size are they?
Thanks
They’re size 47. (13 US sizes).
oooo you’ll have to let me know how snowboarding goes…my roommate and I are going to try to go next weekend
Yeah, I don’t think I can let you go snowboarding. You already live in NY and have all kinds of cool things to do. In Minnesota, we have winter and winter sports. I need something cool!!!
Kansas Announcement
The NEW Kansan.com
Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the old one in the face. Check it out, before Chuck gets you too.
Ummm, that box is an advertisement placed there by facebook. I think everybody has advertisements on the left side, and some of them are “Kansas Announcements”. Enjoy your first day today!!!
i was just asking because your post also mentioned Chuck Norris :’) it was supposed to be funny…
Oh, sorry
I’m a little slow today…
Aw…very very sad……maybe Peter will run into my fish (Killer) up in fishy heaven…
Oops..this is Kelly by the way…livejournal.com won’t let me log in for some reason
i’m sorry.
3 years old?? Wow, he lived a pretty good life for a fishy! Sad, though…
I’ve been having trouble staying logged into livejournal. I think it’s because I use it both at work and home, it won’t let me stay logged in. Grrr.
That’s a lot of food.
I don’t watch Grey’s, but I heard there was some pretty medically ridiculous stuff on last night – i.e. an intubation that took 10 seconds and was done without sedation… hmm…
thanks for the recap and struggling through that – he would have gotten the off switch from me.
You do know that Clinton has become a “son” of Bush’s father? If W bad-mouthed Clinton on national TV, his dad would probably send him to ‘time-out’.
Haha. You’re so right.
one might argue it’s irony when someone hates listening to the morons after a speech and also writes their own commentary.
honestly, Bush makes me a little nervous too, but ad-hom attacks inferring he looks like a monkey or can’t speak english as well as you can is no different than indicting Michael Moore because he’s fat or Howard Dean for screaming or what have you. It’s not a persuasive argument. For crying out loud, critique his policies all you want, but nudging your liberal friends in the side and having a good ‘Greater than Thou’ laugh at the man’s expense who I hate to say it but beat John Kerry in the popular vote.
The GOP is imploding and democrats have the first opportunity in my lifetime to gain some momentum in Congress, but instead of coming up with a plan they keep with this failing ‘Anybody but Bush’ strategy that worked so well in 2002 and 2004. Dems need to stand for something, not just against something.
Also, you argue Bush is stupid for speaking in hyperbole about ridding dependence on Middle East oil and then you over exaggerate what Bush was saying about training teachers. Maybe I was too busy hating the thought of Hillary running the country in 4 years, but I don’t think he said he’d personally train them.
I know, I know, if I don’t like a blog, I shouldn’t read it. Fair enough. I’m saying your bitterness towards the President could be justified, but trying to justify it like that makes me remember why I don’t take political camps like that or listen to Al Franken.
Ahhh, irony. But I write my blog for myself. If people choose to read it, that’s their problem. However when you’re on TV, you’re there for people to listen. I wouldn’t disagree with your inference that I’m a moron though…
I did not imply that he could speak english better than I. Just that it was poor. And you know he does look like a monkey.
That aside, I do agree that blindly and stupidly attacking a person is not a persuasive argument. I wasn’t trying to make a persuasive argument. I could. But I wasn’t. I was, as you said, “nudging my liberal friends in the side”. And it was fun.
I am truly dissapointed in the way the Democrats have handled themselves the past 3-4 years. The Democratic party does still stand for ideals, I’m just not sure that the people in power quite remember what it is. I voted for Kerry, but I was one of those “better than Bush” voters. And I still believe that my vote was correct. However, the Dems could so so much better with a candidiate. They need to do so much better. Step 1, get Dean out of his leadership role. And I think that the Dems need to realize that their “base” is not quite as far left as they imagine. Everytime they’re appealing to their “base”, they make me sick. And I wouldn’t exactly call myself moderate.
Speaking of teaching, you do realize what a complete failure NCLB has been. It was a well intentioned bill that was not well thought out, barely planned, and not funded. I truly believe that it has crippled the districts that most need the help. While the bill was somewhat bipartisan, it is the Bush administration that has failed in properly implementing it.
Don’t apologize for commenting on the blog. If I didn’t want people to read it, I could make it private. Keep on commenting. But for now, I’m too tired to type (as I’ve already exhibited).
I don’t get the joke… I mean, musically I get it, but I don’t get why it’s funny…maybe I’m just dense…
I was just reading about viruses for my test Monday. Feel better! Yeah, unfortunately his attempt at “healing” you is pretty much all that can be done for a virus.
That was me. Apparently I wasn’t logged in.
Okay, so you get the part that the chord is a minor one. And when the Eflat leaves, wbat’s left is a fifth. I’m guessing the part you didn’t get is that they were in a bar, so the C and G had a “fifth”…of whiskey, rum, whatever, left to drink/share between them.
Fifth: 750 mL (approximately a fifth of a gallon) of a hard alcohol (i.e. gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, triple sec, etc.). I have a fifth of Jack Daniels in the freezer.
oh…yeah, I didn’t know that a fifth was a alcohol term. Now it makes sense.
rose pedals, eh? now was that to drink or to put on your bike? haha. sorry i’m mean. i hope the tea tastes good.
Are you insinuating that I treat my bike like a girlfriend? Fine…
I think she’s insinuating that roses have peTals but bikes have peDals.
wild.
What exactly is this dossier that you’re talking about? I think I missed that…
See today’s post.
Wow, thank you for reminding me why I went to med school rather than grad school!
But then again, grad students probably look at what we do and think the same thing, huh?
You took the words right out of my mouth.
I get to drive a 15 passenger van (or our cargo truck – Ford F150) two hours a day for the next three days :’)
sweet, have fun with that!
Good Luck!!!
I don’t want to be reminded of what I have to do in a year… Bates told me that I should write my dossier this year and go thru the process a year early. I told him, “Right….” Is it really an HOUR of questions on chemical engineering? I don’t think I’m going to survive. That sounds like the worst test ever.
Yeah, so I was talking to Dorfman on Friday, and he said “basically, as long as you don’t cry, you’ll pass”
zeroth draft, I like that… and, that’s about the condition of my thesis
Do I even want to know how you knew that their pink pair of sweats was from the Victoria’s Secret “Pink” collection :-p
Hope all is well in Minn-land!
Man, people, you’re not the first person to say that to me!!! Do you seriously not think that you could not identify them (1) from TV commercials and (2) from seeing this?
No. I guess I’ve seen those sweats before, but I had no idea where they came from.
(1) Kim, that’s because you’re a nerdy medical student, mehehehe.
(2) Dan also knew of them
(3) Something else I don’t remember.
As opposed to a non-nerdy chemical engineering student (who knows his victoria’s secret merchandise)?!?
Correct.
But you might as well be specific. A chemical engineering Ph.D. student. That’s even more nerdy.
2,100 calories?! That’s crazy……you’re making me feel like a lazy bum!!
ohhh, that was a good one.
Its a pity that KU lost to Bradley. Do you know where Bradley is? I do… I’ve been there for a math competition or two. Honestly, what happened???
Yeah, I heard where Bradley was. Bah. Honestly, I can’t say that they just royally screwed up the game or anything. They had too many turnovers and not enough offensive rebounds, but Bradley’s defense was stifling!
Good luck!
Scott… nervous?! You’re the one that doesn’t get nervous. Way to tear a hole in the universe.
there’s that caffiene kicking in…;)
–Taylor
No kidding! Grrr.
What a coincidence. My roommate was also up that late!
Hmmm, interesting!
Is Lawrence still all fuzzy though? It was last I checked, though that was quite awhile ago.
So I just checked, and it’s not fuzzy anymore. Yay!
That has to be a Skip quote… He’s the only man that would say that BSL make a regrettable decision.
Who else would refer to “infidels”, too?
Good luck!
good luck :’)
Congratulations!
yay!
i think you’re lying ;’)
Sounds like you’ve been busy as usual!
Glad you’re liking bicycle racing.
How was your trip?
I’m thinking about paying the ‘rents a visit sometime before classes start (or they will freak out if I don’t see them until Thanksgiving or Christmas!)…maybe August 3rd-13th?? ARe you still wanting to come up to NY?
What suburb do your relatives who you’d never met before live in?
Looks like you had a good trip!
Arvada
Awesome pictures!!
I also like how your lj icon for this post is from the Hawaii trip last year and not the Vail trip
Yeah… One of these days I’ll actually take time to update things like livejournal photos, facebook, etc.
Trip was awesome! See post.
I’m planning on being back in Kansas during the neighborhood of Aug 10-14 or something. I think mom is trying to get us all together on the 12th…keep that day open!
Yes, I’m still wanting to visit you! Is Aug 25-27 still open?
Sure is!
Emily and I will be in NYC August 5-6. Maybe I’ll have some suggestions for you after then!
i haven’t seen the movie, but i’ve heard good things.
Ooh, aweseome! Be sure to let me know.
It was ridiculous in Lawrence. Still 90-something at 11 pm one night I was out.
Now in Denver for the first time in a LONG time it’s only supposed to be in the 80s all week. Yay!
Hope you’ve been able to get all the slivers out from the bike accident and that you’re feeling ok!
Feeling much better, and getting some of the splinters out. Still a few more to go…
Try…a heat index of 112….in the city…below ground…waiting for a subway….in a subway station that is not air conditioned…..then finally getting on an air conditioned subway…only to sit next to smelly people whoses sweaty arms are up against yours…major grossness!!!
Then…try…sleeping at night when it’s 95 with no air conditioning or fan!
And tomorrow it’s supposed to be 103 (heat index about 115)…blah!
Of course…this is nothing compared to the humidity in Kansas!
That bike accident…owie!!!!! Are you in pain when you walk?
I think using ’silly’ twice in something that is actually quite correct is a little excessive. Remember where you are and how much more of us there are than you… silly Kansan
It doesn’t hurt too much to walk anymore, but the bandages to make it hard to walk at times
You better make sure it cools off before I come and visit!
Every plane you get onto seems to have a mechanical problem. (mental note never to fly with Scott!) I went through security in Rochester around 7:45 eastern time, so by then I had already heard it all on the news, which helped since I originally hadn’t been planning to check anything, but ended up doing it so I could bring all my liquids. We got to Chicago on time around 9:15 or so, but then my flight was just delayed more and more and ended up being over 3 hours late. It looked stormy there which worried me that it’d end up even more delayed, but apparently I had already missed the storminess.
But no mechanical problems. That’s just you.
Yeah, I seriously do have a lot of mechanical problems. And even in the air sometimes (two summers ago). Boo. I wasn’t planning on checking my bags, either, but I just checked my rollerbag when I found out during the check-in. Luckily, I was taking my bike anyway.
Yes…the dog is cute!
Is that a bichon frise or does it just look like one? that’s what my parents have.
Well, we got the dog from the humane society, and it was already an adult, so I’m not sure that we know exactly what it is. But I was not aware that it was a bichon frise. However, it does remind me of pictures I’ve seen of your dog.
Maybe it’s part bichon…b/c there’s definitely some resemblance, though it doesn’t look exactly like one.
So I asked my mother, and they humane society people told her it was part poodle and part wheaton terrier. But then, they’ve told us wrong before, too.
do you work? :-p
Turns out not much.
Aw…sorry to hear that!
I’m sorry Scott.
YAY for NYC!!!
What are you planning to do there?
See later post
It just isn’t a trip to NYC without having to deal with the NYPD
Glad you had fun!
Come back again sometime!
I’ve read a fairly big excerpt from that book. I sorta felt the same way…yes, this is clearly a problem in our society, but what’s the solution? I could ramble more about this but I don’t have the mental energy to do that right now since it doesn’t have much to do with neuropathology. Maybe later.
Dang it anyways, Scott. Good thing we didn’t visit my sister in South Dakota or you’d be that much further than me on states… Looks like you’re missing all the cool states anyways
yeah, what’s your count?
Oh, I don’t know… around 20? It hasn’t changed since Missouri and Kansas.
what the heck are you going to do with 9 QUARTS of soup? whoa.
Yeah, I know. At least I didn’t put the full 10 lbs of chicken in it!
my game’s been over for quite awhile
but then again, medical school likes to increase the rate of those falling blocks to about 10x as fast as would possibly allow you to keep up!
what do you think of the new cd? i’m going to see them twice here…unless i have too much studying, in which case i will see them once.
I’ve only had a chance to listen to it once so far. It was good.
he he :’)
There are coffee drinkers who would be amused with that cup insulator. They would read the ad and maybe point it out to their coffee drinking friend.
Then there are the photographer coffee drinkers who might mention it in their blog.
But you, you are the next level: the engineer photographer coffee drinker who saves the wrapper and scans it as soon as you get home. You, sir, are a rare breed– where coffee drinking, photography loving, and high-tech gadget collecting coincide. If that ad was written for anyone, it was written for you. Congratulations. You win a lifetime of amusement at random things. It’s not such a bad deal.
(It’s ten minutes to midnight, btw and $12 doesn’t seem so expensive anymore. Must…hold… on… If only I had a cookie to tide me over until 2am.)
Say hi to Carbon Leaf for me!
Hope you have fun.
ouch! you hated him that much? while i agree that he is pretty squirmy, seemed to talk 90% about sex-related stuff, and i’m not a fan of the nose piercing, i still like his music, and no, i was not joking when i said he was hot! maybe he just didn’t look good there. or maybe you’re not a girl and your opinion on his hotness doesn’t count. :-p
i’m also interested that you think CL sounds like they do in the studio. i tend to think they sound SO much better live (not that they don’t sound good recorded.) though echo echo remains my favorite album of theirs by far, i like the new one now that i’ve heard most of it live – just gives it more energy than it has recorded, in my opinion.
well look at that. mr. matt nathanson isn’t so hot all the time either.
yeah, according to SCOTT. what does he know about whether guys are hot?
You think this is hot?

I agree that the new stuff has more energy live. And the boxer was definitely the crowd favorite. I just wanted to hear more old stuff
me too, though i wasnt expecting to. i was sad that the few songs they excluded from LLHR were some of my favorites (i.e. block of wood and int’l airport, though i didnt think they’d play the latter)
ok, it’s not the best picture, but yes.
oops, that was me (duh)
so, i think kim makes a good point – does scott really know if a guy is hot?
but then, i think scott makes a better point with the picture.
ha :’)
i can’t see the picture :’(
So I guess what I really mean by “sounding like the studio” is that they have talent. Meaning that the singer can actually sing on-key and the guitarists and actually play their riffs. I’ve seen too many concerts where the band is not quite as good.
yeah, i gotcha. that’s what i thought you had meant – just had to be difficult
do you really think it’s that bad of a picture?
I asked Terry about Block of Wood. He said they hadn’t even soundchecked it yet. Since they wrote most of the songs in the studio and not on the road, they have to play around with their parts to make it sound good live. Lawrence was where they first played Bright Lights and I guess they’d been soundchecking it for a week trying to figure out how to play it right. They’ll do it later in the tour, though.
One of the audience members yelled ‘more cowbell’ and so Scott started playing cowbell. And Barry was like ‘that’s fine, but whatever you do, don’t ask for more crash cymbol! I didn’t think of it until they started playing the next song but I should have yelled ‘more block of wood.’ Play on words! HA!
I enjoy Matt Nathanson. I think a lot of that is I enjoy his sense of humour. I understand why it would be a turnoff for some, though. Also, I think he’s really talented and I’m excited for the new album because he’s just now learning to write things for the whole band. Nice guy too. Just my taste.
Seeing how you spelled humor, I can see why you liked him.
yeah, he likes to pretend he’s from england when he spells… haha.
Michael, did you talk to Matt? I didn’t. Sad.
Or Canadian. I regularly get into debates with my Canadian friends up here. They’re silly.
We just studied this video in Intellectual Property today. We compared it to the “Ridin” video and talked about the possible copyright infringement issues. Fun times. I’m going to have to share this link with my professor now…
only 30%?? :-p
I know!!!!!
I only have 12.
I had 2. But I tried several other people’s names (such as my mom’s) and it told me 0. I’d like to know what sort of algorithm this thing uses to estimate….it apparently doesn’t do too well with uncommon names. Unless my mom doesn’t really exist.
Yeah, I’m sure the algorithm is crap. But I think the number is supposed to be how many “other” people. But who knows.
ONE!
There are no Emilie Rexeisens or Emilie Grzywas.
They told me that no one has the last name of Grzywa or Rexeisen… but I happen to know that to be false.
I got only a 34%… damn you for teaching me the reference of earl grey to Capt. Picard!!!
I think this is really a quiz for white, nerdy, and a computer geek… there weren’t any chemistry questions.
Internet quizzes tend that way
I’m confused – when you say “or alive, for that matter” are you talking about Carter?
yeah, me too. he’s still alive.
i think he means that he (Scott) wasn’t alive when Carter was President.
Ding ding ding, Cara’s the big winner in the “What the f**k is Scott saying” contest. Just wait until next week’s edition for a big stumper
ohhhhhh, i gotcha. that makes A LOT more sense.
I concur.
So Kansas was on the national news last night– turns out that whatever county Topeka is in is threatening to overturn its Republican congressman Jim Ryun. They interviewed some church pastor who claimed that his congregation was full of people who were actually considering voting Democrat– even though they were God loving people! I was appalled. I thought you should know.
Does this mean that you’ve finally admitted that Kansans have accents?
No. “Neutral” was not an option on the quiz. You should have read closer, I got pretty close to no accent: “Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you’re a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent.”
I know what you mean about the non-nerdiness. When we go to med student conferences, we’re (as in the Colorado people) always the “cool” ones – everyone else, especially the east coasters, are always so stuffy/nerdy/uptight.
Sorority! Bah. You’re cooler than that.
MMMMMM, Casino Royale. I saw it too. Fabulous.
Christmas break, huh? You Minnesota people are on a weird calendar…
(yes, yes, I know what you meant – I’m just being a jerk as usual)
Oh wow…I didn’t even notice the “I haven’t posted on this thing since Christmas break” blooper….until I saw that comment.
So…Scott…you know what I just realized after looking at those pictures (loved the tent one :-p)….we both went to KU together, you have came up to NYC for a visit…yet…the two of us cousins haven’t even had a drink together (and that sip of your beer in Hawaii doesn’t count)….hmm…..
Hey, I’m tired … toss me a bone here.
You know, I was actually thinking of that when I was visiting you in New York … we should have taken the opportunity.
Well…guess you’ll have to come back to NY…for the nightlife scene
Seeya in a couple of weeks for C-mas!
nice pics! looks like you had a little too much fun with your water droplets :’)
yeah, yeah. i’m a nerd
“this page” cannot be found, fyi. i think your links are corrupted.
Yeah, took longer than expected to upload. It’s there now.
no fair, i want a new fancy camera!
i like the close-up Christmas lights :’)
and, have i mentioned lately that your dad is adorable?
No, but he blushed when I told him
Merry Christmas, you!
Merry Christmas!
I think there are more pictures of the dogs than of humans!
Yeah, probably. They do more interesting things. And are cuter. And don’t mind having their picture taken.
In the year 2007 I resolve to:
Wear my underwear outside my pants.
Get your resolution here.
That was funny.
Haha.
Who says Catholics don’t know the bible?!? (and p.s., I didn’t even need that quiz to tell me that I attract geeks…since “nobody” wasn’t an option – haha)
Wow! You are truly a student of the Bible! Some of the questions were difficult, but they didn’t slow you down! You know the books, the characters, the events . . . Very impressive!
Ultimate Bible Quiz
Create MySpace Quizzes
lol, Kim, you’re too funny
actually, a more accurate answer to what type of people i attract would’ve been “creepy old guys i walk past on my way to school”
Orchestra Hall?! I so want to go. Take me with you next time. Honestly.
-16 is balmy compared to the -21 I saw going into work today.
I also cheered for the Colts. Poor Rexy, at least he is still sexy. Prince rocks my world, but where does he always manage to find the twins?
And Careerbuilder.com was my favorite series, but the Dorito’s check out line one was my favorite, hands down.
I’m so going this Thursday. Check your Yahoo email.
Rexy is sexy … aren’t you funny
I enjoyed the Dorito’s commercial with the guy getting in the car wreck and the girl there being clumsy. I guess that was the one that one the user entry contest, so that was made by regular Joes, and I think they said they spent $12 on it.
Prince was good. Purple Rain in the rain? It’s impressive that he could perform with as crappy as the weather was. Are you sure that silhouette wasn’t an accident?
I liked the Bud Light commercials. Rock, paper, scissors? That’s pretty funny stuff.
Ah, finally we don’t have the same taste… I was rooting for DA BEARS! Where did this interest in the Colts come from? Comeon, sweet home Chicago…? And Prince was cool. He could have performed more of his own songs, but you have to respect a man who can walk in heels better than most women!
As for commericals, I couldn’t stop laughing at the paper, rock, scissors one. Another fav was the cute one with the machine that dropped the bolt one day and things escalate until he’s about to jump off the bridge and then BAM… just a dream! awwww
OH OH OH! Yes you’re right. My FAVORITE commercial was the robot who got fired. I loved that one, how could I forget!
Rock, paper, scissors was also pretty fun.
Why am I interested in the Colts? How could I root for an NFC team? AFC all the way, baby!
You mean sweet home Alabama?
No way that was an accident. Everybody was talking about it Monday.
i was kidding. see the little winking smile? of course it’s not an accident…i’m sure they rehearsed that like 50 million times.
woah! changin’ up the LJ, eh?
Everything I wanted to say but couldn’t formulate.
Oh, you know, gotta spice up your life sometime
So I am finally going to watch the episode from last Thursday, tonight, of GA.
I agree! More Adult Video Game Nights. Perhaps we should put an iv of coffee in Christine next time so she can enjoy with us? She is my new BFF for bringing the pizza.
No kidding on the IV, and the BFF. You’re sad, LOL
Dude– the wine just killed me that night. I had no willpower to stay awake at all.
Scott, you know that when I started dating you I was expecting these weekly decadent cheesecakes. And then somehow you haven’t made me one single cheesecake in these howevermany months. So the pressure’s on, boy. This cheesecake better be worth that cheesecake suspense you’ve put me through all this time…or else.
I would like to note that when you were expecting these cheesecakes, I had a working electric mixer. I will blame that on the lack of cheesecakes.
And I’ve still managed to put on pounds … awesome!
Oh snap to you there Scott!
And FYI… I know I’m sad. LOL
OMG ROFL LOL
Dear lord, I have no response to that. I’m out of letters. Schnikes.
As the resident Catholic, I’d just like to point out that the “Sunday exemption method” of giving stuff up for Lent is NOT a Catholic thing…
That’s impressive, though – if I gave up fb and lj, I think I’d feel incredibly disconnected from the outside world!
Just to torture you because you can’t respond….
Happy Lent Season.
I hope you’ll post every Sunday.
I’m struggling to understand how a ChemE grad student who just acquired a computer for the sole purpose of creating a fancy set-up with the tv can really call a computer science guy “geeky”… :-p
maybe by next sunday i’ll have posted about everything on my list of things to write about. life has just been too crazy for LJ lately…
Justification:
1) I look people in the eye when holding a conversation.
2) I don’t carry my palm pilot clipped to my belt.
3) I shower.
You are so going to hell.
That sounds distrubing on so many levels.
Interesting. Haven’t I been telling you that the Twinkies rock for about as long as I’ve known you? It’s about time you realize it!!!
Have a good weekend
Harsh words, boy, harsh words.
working, eh?
Spring break pictures?! Fie. How about some pictures of eggs. That’s what we really want to see.
How about a Cinco de Mayo theme? That could be way cool, especially if you get tamale lights.
Ooh, great idea! Any others?
we’re supposed to get 6 inches or something on friday here. sucks.
Hooray! He looks so… pretty?
So I clicked on my friends area, turned away from the computer and turned back to the largest something ever. I jumped. Thanks for the wake up moment at 11:20am.
He’s hungry, I think. He got so excited when I put that algae in the bowl.
Don’t worry, he doesn’t bite.
Oh, Christine hasn’t been to exciting Arma yet?
Nope, this will be a first. And boy, will that be exciting for her : )
No way. Oh my god. Speechless.
THAT is great…makes me want to order pizza from there…
you get to see a turtle laying eggs in Minnesota and i get nothing on a freaking two hour night turtle walk at Tortuguero? granted, i was hoping for turtles that are over a meter long…but still.
did you know there’s a Minnesota-Costa Rica foundation? there was a sign by a bridge in Tortuguero. and by bridge, I mean a concrete sidewalk over a narrow stream.
okay, just jealous.
Yeah, I was going to take a picture, but I had to get into work and didn’t have time to ride back to the park. It was pretty cool, however.
Maybe there’s a matching bridge here in Minnesota?
That so made my day!
oh wow
such a nerd
i can’t believe we’re friends
Haha : ) You’re so right.
as usual :’)
Did you really have a 11 line AIM conversation with yourself?
Wow….
Waiting for Chris to reply, yes.
2 weeks?? I’m so jealous. I’m practically jumping up and down at the fact that I have a 4-day weekend coming up in a few weeks…
Gonna post any vacation pictures?
Oh, Scott. Rookie mistake! Good luck with the new fish! We had an aquarium as kids – I remember that the first fish I picked out for it was orange and yellow and its name was Bubbles. You should get a little water frog – I forget the actual name of them. They’re little and they just swim around, but they’re fun to watch!
I also like how “we compromised” actually meant “I did what the girlfriend told me to do” – haha. She must have you well-trained… :-p
Actually, Christine bought herself one of those frogs at the same time we got my fish. She’s in love with it … I think she only did about 5 hours of work at work today, watching it the remainder of the time.
#1) I love my frog completely, unconditionally, and uncontrollably. She is my shining star, my nocturnal princess, my heart of hearts.
#2) You realize those fish would have also died in the bag the way they were acting. I was just keeping you from becoming too attached to them. And it was way more than 2 hours. Liar.
#3) If you were well-trained I’d abuse you more.
1) I’m sad for you, Christine.
2) Probably.
3) I hope not.
Yes, 8 bottles of wine did not make for a good day at work on Monday, but since I did get introduced to Gunther and the Sunshine Girls(both human and fish form), I will forgive you for the hangover.
Hangover? I’m sorry. Christine and I were fine, but from what I hear, you weren’t the only one feeling it Monday morning.
Awesome pictures!
Funny how we’re going to the same places this summer! I went to Boston for the first time the other day on my way to Martha’s Vineyard to visit a friend. Then I’m driving up to Maine to visit another friend over Labor Day weekend. Where at in Maine were you guys at?
We basically just went to Portland, and the surrounding areas. Made it to the LL Bean outlet in Newport and to Kinnebunk Port.
FYI… tonight is $.50 boneless wing night… YUM!
Group lunch! At a Greek place?! You mean Cafe 421?
Your snail is just happy to eat all of the leftover crappy food that has been plaguing your nitrogen levels. Hooray for snails!
No, this is some Greek place in Northeast, close to Brasa. I forget what it’s called, but Shawn’s been wanting to go there.
Habitat for Humanity….you’ll have to let me know how that goes. I looked into volunteering there in NY when I first moved here, but they had a statement on their webpage at that time saying they had too many volunteers!!! I shld check into it again……
Nice snail btw
Ahhh so the lonely Sunshine Girl has a friend. To bad it in not Gunther (or however that is spelled).
whoa! that was awesome!
Lizard? in Kansas? Ok…maybe that’s just the city in me talking….
I bet Grandpa had a blast showing off his farm…come to think of it…I don’t think I’ve seen as much of his farm as Christine did…hmm…will have to do something about that!
We were at Farlington lake. I see lizards in Kansas often, but this one was particularly big.
BTW, I hate allergies. I never have them in MN, but I was dying that period was at home.
Grandpa absolutely had a blast. Seriously, he loved it. Mom says he’s still talking about it. Have him take you out, he’d also love it! I’m sure your dad would go with you, too.
Where is the sustenance in that list? Boy, if I’m going to eat lunch and dinner there I’m going to need some meat (on a stick).
EDIT:
* Reuben on a stick
* Baked potato
* Pronto pup
Every time you post or say something about fried snickers……… it makes me curious, grossed out, and interested…all at the same time…
You should be curious, interested, and hungry. Gross is not a word I’d apply to a fried Snickers bar.
oh poor Abbie! Will she be feeling up to the Mankato trip? I know Dwight is up for it.
We should figure out the details for this weekend. Seeing as I am total novice at camping…
How was the trip? I saw some pictures on facebook and it looks like everyone had a good time. Drinky?
i still read everyone’s blogs. but you’re the only one who posts usually
though i guess i’m not one to talk…
Aww, that’s my man. How about I make a new list of 25 tasks that you can work on?
1. Hang a round mirror.
umm, yeah, i read LJ every week…or two…or three…something like that
but Kim’s right, you’re pretty much the only who posts out of our old KU group
I guess that’s what happens when you sit in front of a computer all day every day. You end up getting bored and writing stories. Maybe I should just work more?
Um…..how in the world can you stand closing out your email?!!?? I have even set it up to where e-mails from my main email address are forwarded to my sidekick so that I can work away from my laptop and still know when I get emails….
Pft. I showed you tons of sympathy. Then you ran out of sympathy. Sorry, boy, the sympathy bag is empty. The sympathy tree is picked clean. The sympathy battery needs to be recharged. Try again later.
I’ve been nervous ALL week.
I can’t believe you’ll be up in the air while the game’s on!!!
i can’t even express how excited i was to leave work at midnight on Tuesday night and enter a perfectly snow-covered Chicagoland. all glittery and glistening :’) i just love it! luckily no problems with my bus.
i don’t get that either. can’t they at least ask “yes or no” questions? is it fun for them? i mean, they must do it to lots of people every day…
I feel like I am right there with you this holiday season! lol AVG Night sooooooon…
When you find someone with it, let me know. I got addicted this last week as well.
I still suck on easy mode.
Heavy…impressive….I’m still working on the easy mode.
I’m sure it’s just beginners luck. We’ll see next time I get to play. . .
Wait…do you mean you were flying from Kansas to Minnesota during the game? Weren’t you doing the same thing for the KU-MU game? You need to work on timing your flights when there are huge KU games!
No, I was back in time for the game this time, luckily. What a game. I made Christine walk, too.
names?
Not yet … we’ll make sure they make it a week first : )
I am literally bouncing in my chair at work. Date for AVGN?! How’s next weekend looking for you?
We just need Guitar Hero now…
YES! As long as it comes in on time, then next weekend should be great. Too bad I don’t own a console or computer that could play guitar hero. I’d buy it today if I did.
har, har, you so funny. *eye roll*
Did you not notice when it was -20 last weekend, air temp?
Yes, I did notice. Key difference there, however, was that it was the weekend. I just didn’t leave my house.
I think next Tuesday we have the basketball game??
Oooh, very true. I’ll have to let Aaron know.
At least you got a “ballot”. I had to write the name of the canidate I wanted on a piece of paper. God only knows what people wrote if they didn’t know who was running.
7th grade student election is so perfect!! The only good thing about mine was that my ward only had one place to meet and no one else was there.
I don’t think you actually voted. I think you just sent some politicians a little Valentine’s Day candy-gram.
Sounds about right.
That’s the best fellowship outline I’ve ever seen in my life. Who may I ask wrote it for you? I must pay them to write mine!
Someone pretty amazing, that’s for sure. I did, however, promise to hold their identity secret.
I am in a pool here at work, I’ll send you the info if you like.
What about your victory post? Don’t make me write one for you.
aw!
I had a twin yesterday too for my chicken fried rice. Maybe Minnesota birds are getting too many chemicals in their diet or something.
ok, so that’s kinda cool. I’ve never seen that myself.
That sounds like the Denver KU bar. Except we got there 3 hours early and got the last teeny table…and the place is huge. I guess it just shows how loyal KU fans are!
We watched the UNC game there too, which was equally crazy!
yeah…I’m a little scared about the chickens y’all have up there.
i think it starts with a pencil and ends with a stamp.
it’s no fun guessing if you won’t say “yay” or “guess again”…
Oops …
DING DING DING! Right on both counts!
How about the rest?
Sounds like you had a fab Friday! Congrats!
have you tried Mothership Wit? I think it’s pretty tasty :’)
Very tasty … I’m a fan.
Except they’re missing the funniest one– Dance!
Racoon?
I would be surprised if a racoon would make it up the sheer face of my deck wall … it’s probably 5 feet off of the ground. But who knows … I just saw a guy climb up three stories to get into his apartment. You never know.
yay! I saw ducklings today. you should totally go to a lake/pond and take pictures of the little cuties.

We need to BBQ soon. We are getting out of hand with this months between hanging out thing!
Yes, we do! I promise I’ll try to remember to call you next time there’s a BBQ at the Douglas house.
So it will no longer be strange to have Sonic commercials here when there were none!
ok so I am feeling really slacker like with my 5 mile run or 9 mile bike each day.
I’m exausted from a 5 mile run, however … I’m only good at a 5K.
do you think that’s becuase of global warming? it’s finally warm enough up there for drive-ins? Sonic still has not made it to Chicago, though I hear they’ve made it as far as Springfield which is significantly closer than the previous “closest Sonic” in Iowa.
we have the commercials here too.
Yes, I typically think of Sonic as a very forward-thinking company, and I’m sure they’ve hired a climatology team to study global warming and were is a good place to put a drive-in.
I’m excited to go to the one here, but I haven’t managed to yet. I heard there were ~2 hour long waiting lines when it first opened. I might wait till things settle down a bit.
nice! I so love this site! you’re right it will be huge.

You ALREADY posted this morning? Man, give me some of that gung-ho.
Shyeah. While somebody was making me lunch : )
Correction: You once “saw the little house on the prairie, but it was closed.” Bull. Shit.
Technically, I did see the “original site”, as I claimed. But no, I did not get to actually go inside the house. I can only imagine that it looks like the set of the play.
Dude, wtf happened to your stock on Dec 14th last year?
The bottom fell out, obviously.
I’m pretty sure my family owned and read all the Little House on the Prairie books. And I watched re-runs of the tv series. I mean, who doesn’t just love Michael Landon? We also visited the site way back when it was the worlds longest drive, like maybe an hour. Memories? None.
Guess I’m not so lucky with the stock market. I had RothIRA money go in at the end of trading Monday…the only day this week the market has managed a little comeback after plummeting. All things considered, I’d have picked a day it closed so low everyone else was crying :’)
Haha. Mine finally went through this morning, at the price of yesterday’s close. Alright, stocks, time to rebound!
You guys’ pictures are so pretty.
See, told you!
I just got that vi joke… VI = 6… Ha!
Some people have no shame.
Those are AMAZING
Wow, Scott! It was so easy to log on to your new site using OpenID and leave a comment!
it works?
it works!!!
Wow, Scott! It only took like a million tries to log on to your new site using OpenID and leave a comment!
Wow, Scott! It was so easy to log on to your new site and leave a comment but don’t think that I am won over to this new journal idea yet.
Scott, love you so much, but really? A Geocaching event? Umm… geek. Kidding!
@de
YES! Somebody else has learned to comment on my new blog. Thanks De!
Oh, and geocaching events. You need to try it before you knock it. Seriously, however, you should come with me some day this spring when it’s nice out. You could really enjoy it!
it’s fantastic here too. i really like when a 40 degree increase in temperature only brings it to 20 deg F.
Exciting!!
So I love the photo of you looking at the fish tank… I actually thought it was a current photo and a random kid. Fish tanks have been special to you for a while, huh?
Hey, congratulations on the “graduation”!!
Your parents look exactly the same as five years ago. Kinda cracks me up.
Ha. This is scarily true.
