Art shanties make me want to go fishing
Saturday morning was such an eventful morning. I’ve been talking up The Copper Dome restaurant to my friends for quite a while, and I finally convinced Janice, Masano, and Chongai to join Christine and I for a Saturday morning brunch. You may remember me talking about the amazingness of this before. Well, it again lived up to the legend. It was so tasty, Chongai even ate a full meal!
Afterwards, we drove towards Medicine Lake to check out the Art Shanty Project with some friends from the Douglas house. What is it, you ask? Well, Minnesotans are knows for their ice fishing. But you don’t ice fish by putting a lawn chair on a lake, drilling a hole, and dropping a line in. Oh, no. You have to build an entire shack (shanty, if you will) to protect you from the elements and to store your beer.
And what happens when the artsy hipster community in the twin cities meets the ice fishermen? Art shanties. And man, were they cool. I got to make (and mail) a postcard in one, while I got to climb a rickety ladder to the third story of another. Good times.
